Recommendations and Best Practices for Mesonets

AASC’s Recommendations and Best Practices for Mesonets was approved by a unanimous vote of members on 26 June, 2019 at the Annual Meeting of the AASC in Santa Rosa, CA.  The purpose of this document is to improve consistency in the way mesonets operate, observe the environment, and describe their systems and data, by providing specific recommendations and suggesting best practices.  This document was developed over the course of two and a half years, from early 2017 to the day of its adoption by the AASC.  Development of this document included survey input from 21 mesonet operators, direct editing and recommendations from 17 mesonet operators, and countless hours of collaboration to pull text and content together.

This document will be periodically updated by the AASC.  Your comments and suggestions are welcome at anytime. If you should have corrections or suggestions, please contact the AASC Executive Director.
