The Florida Climate Center is a public serviceunit of the Institute of Science and Public Affairs at the Florida StateUniversity. Home of the State Climatologist, David Zierden, and noted El Nino expert, James J. O'Brien, the Florida Climate Center provides climate data and information for the state of Florida.

Purpose
TheFlorida Climate Center is part of three-tiered system that serves to provideclimate data, information, and services for the United States. Affiliatedwith the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville, NC and the SoutheastRegional Climate Center (SERCC) in Columbia, SC, the Florida Climate Centershould be the first stop for climate data and information for citizens, organizations,educational institutions and private businesses in the state of Florida.We seek to serve the state of Florida by providing:
  • Climate Data:
    Historicalweather observations for weather stations throughout the state of Florida.We are able to provide data for most stations from 1948-present.
  • Climate Information:
    Long-term historical averages for various stations, climate divisions, and the entire state.
  • Extreme Events:
    Information and analyses on extreme events such as storms, freezes, droughts, floods and hurricanes.
  • Special Analysis:
    Withhis vast knowledge of El Nino, La Nina and climate variablility, the StateClimatologist and staff can offer expert insight into Florida's climate trends.
  • Outreach:
    Inform and educate the people of Florida about current and emerging climate issues.
Affiliations
The Florida Climate Center is part of a three-tiered system providing climateservices at the national, regional and state levels.
The Florida Climate Center is also an active participant in the Southeast Climate Consortium, a partnership of six universities facilitating the effective use of climate information and forecast in agriculture, forestry, and water resources.
